Two weeks ago..
I got out of the exam room.. I think I did good.
just as i was closing the door behind me,, the collage’s doctor
comes running, dragging her black, dusty emergency bag behind her. As she rushed past me, the smell of dust over whelmed me.. god! When was the last time they used this thing?! Are the stuff inside the bag still working?? I bet whoever she’s on her way to help is better off without her help..
about a minute has passed since I’ve been sitting on the seat in front of the room, waiting for my friend to get out. AH what’s that smell?? A strong smell of dust was coming from the direction of the staircase on my left, I look up, and there she is once again, an old lady with her hunched back, small beady eyes.. strands of grey hair managed to get loose from the perfectly made bun on the top of her head.. she’s the collage’s doctor, AGAIN!.. with her bony, wrinkly hands wrapped around the old, dusty black bag.. what is she doing back so quickly? Once again she rushed past me. This time headed towards the door to building 21. What’s her story!!! I don’t know what it is about this woman, but every time she’s around I get Goosebumps, maybe it’s the fact that she looks like the living dead!!
I followed her outside, it was empty and chilly.. everyone was inside exam rooms,, racking their brains for answers.. the atmosphere was gloomy, the sky was filled with clouds that blocked the sun out of sight..
She went inside building 21, with me behind her, keeping my distance. I followed her till she reached the third level, made her way to the fire escape stair case. The first thing my eyes laid on was a pair of Nike shoes on the floor, with a couple of KSU faculty staff surrounding them, looks like a girl fell off the stairs. I moved closer to get a better look, that’s weird,, the girl is just laying there, not a single move or moan! I tilted my head upfront to take a look at her face, and I froze with shock! The girl wasn’t moving because she was dead! Her body was twisted in a weird angle, and her eyes were wide open. Her pupils were as small as a 2.5 ball point pen! Even though the lighting was dim, I could clearly see how pale her skin was, it was almost colorless. Lips were blue and veins were showing, greenish blue lines that once kept her alive.
“Please step back!” a shout from the doctor snapped me out of my shock.
The next day the word has spread around the campus about the incident in building 21. The autopsy report said that the girl has died of cardiac arrest. How can that be? A girl in her early 20s with a perfectly healthy and fit body, can her heart STOP just like THAT?! Why doesn’t anyone think that that’s strange?!
I made my way to building 21, and up the fire escape stair case into the third floor. Back to where it happened. I don’t know what I expected to see there but I went there anyways. Everything looked normal. The same as it’s always been with its grey walls, dim lighting, But colder than usual. I look at the stair case in front of me. Shadows covering it.. I wonder what happened to her, and what was she doing up here all alone? As these thoughts stormed through my mind, I get the feeling that I’m being watched, “hello? Is anyone there?” I called out to the darkness.. but the only response I got was silence. I was making my way back down, 1 step, 2 steps then all of a sudden I couldn’t feel my legs anymore,, I screamed as I fell off the stairs…
“OWW!” I tried to get back up, but pain shot in my ankle, I decided to sit there a couple of minutes to regain my strength.I kept my eyes up on the stairs hoping that someone will come passing by.. watching my shadow on the wall in front of me, I started to make shapes with my hand and watch it’s shadow form on the wall, this was one of my favorite games when I was a little girl, I’d make my own little shadow show. I started playing with shadows to forget the pain. After a little while I noticed a strange shadow, it was shapeless,, it didn’t have edges.. It’s like it wasn’t a shape of an object, I looked around me trying to figure out what’s making this weird shadow. When I looked back at the wall, I saw it moving,, till it disappeared inside my shadow. I tried moving my body left and right to see it again, but it wasn’t there. Before I could figure out if the pain was making me see things or if it was really there, the door swung open and girls came out. As soon as they saw me there, they came rushing towards me and helped me up. They were so nice, they wouldn’t leave me till they made sure I got into my care safe.
To be continued…
